As many of you know, the farmers market here in Plumas Lake started off strong with lots of participation from residents of the area. However, rather than growing in attendance, it is shrinking and vendors are leaving.
If we want to keep it around we ALL have to work hard and support it...on a REGULAR BASIS.
Tell all of your friends and neighbors about it and encourage them to support it!
Try and go every week (if you are in town) and buy something, even if you don't need it....
Participation from the residents will help ensure the success (and growth) of the market.
This farmers market started off strong only because it coincided with the rib cook off. Four or five vendors selling the exact same thing is not really a farmers market. People want more choice. Sadly, adding more vendors with more of a variety of produce is the only thing that will save it. The people behind this won't add more vendors until more people show up. It's a catch 22 situation. I work downtown & go to the farmers market there every Tuesday because it has over 20 vendors & offers everything I want in vegetables, fruit & flowers. If the market here did that, I'd go to it every week, but it doesn't & it won't.
I agree, it is a catch 22. However, we as a community are the only ones who can influence that cycle. The only thing to do is support it anyway, even if you believe there is a lack of choice.
